The Rural Municipality of Macdonald is offering TIPPS (Tax Installment Payment Plan Service) to pay your property taxes.  TIPPS is a monthly tax installment payment plan by which taxpayers can make consecutive monthly payments for taxes rather than a single annual payment.

Why are we offering TIPPS?

TIPPS will break your annual payment amount into monthly payments making budgeting for monthly expenses easier.  To take advantage of TIPPS the only requirement is that you have a chequing account at any Canadian Financial Institution.

What are my monthly payments going to be?

A monthly payment amount is calculated by dividing your most recent annual tax statement by the number of installment payments you choose (maximum 12) rounded up to the nearest dollar.  Payments begin October 1st of this year (for 12 payments) OR any other month chosen and continue each consecutive month until the account is paid in full by the tax due date of September 30th.  There is no municipal charge for this service.

Payment Options:

When you apply, please specify the month to commence the TIPPS payment.

(Payments spread over 6 months in any given year)

Property taxes $1200.00

April through to September - Monthly payments ($1200.00/6) $200.00 (each month)

(Payments spread over 12 months)

Property taxes $1200.00

October of the current year to September of the following year monthly payments ($1200.00/12) $100.00 (each month)

If there are any changes in your annual tax levy, payment amounts will be adjusted accordingly beginning in July of each year. At the time of the annual tax billing (June), you will be notified of the total amount of installments paid to date and the calculation of the new installment amounts for the remaining payments in that year.

All TIPPS payments are sent to our bank on the first business day of each month, and they should be deducted from your bank account on the second to fourth day of the month.  You must give written permission before the withdrawals begin.

Your property must have an assessment for any new construction (i.e: Office Building or Residence) in order to be eligible to enroll in the TIPPS program.

Current year's taxes must be paid in full by September 30, before we will commence the TIPPS program for the following year's taxes.  The Supplementary Taxes (Taxes Added) must be paid in full by December 31, before we will commence the TIPPS program for the following year's taxes.

You may withdraw from the TIPPS plan by giving written notice at least two weeks before the next payment date.  IT IS IMPORTANT to understand that if you withdraw or your plan is cancelled, all unpaid taxes become due and payable, and are subject to penalties in accordance with the Financial Plan By-Law.

If any payments are missed or returned, the Rural Municipality of Macdonald has the option to cancel the agreement, and all unpaid taxes become due and payable and are subject to penalties in accordance with the Financial Plan By-Law.  There will be a $30.00 charge on all charges returned NSF (non sufficient funds).  In the event of a second returned payment, the property will automatically be removed from the TIPPS program.

Changing Bank Accounts

If you change your chequing account, please advice the Municipal Office by providing a new VOID cheque at least two weeks before the next payment date.  Payments returned due to invalid banking information will be subject to a $30.00 service charge.
