Water Facility Operator
The Rural Municipality of Macdonald is currently recruiting a full-time Water Facility Operator. The Macdonald Regional Water Facility is located in Sanford, Manitoba, approximately 20 km southwest of Winnipeg and serves approximately 8,000 rural and urban customers.
Reporting to the Water Treatment Facility Manager, the Water Facility Operator is responsible for performing duties related to the operation, monitoring, repair and maintenance of all water and wastewater systems within the Municipality.
In this role you will assist with the operation and maintenance of a Class 4 Ultrafiltration/Reverse Osmosis membrane treatment process, a Class 2 water distribution system and five rural reservoirs. Conduct regularly scheduled water analysis to ensure Canadian Drinking Water Quality Guidelines are met. Collect, record, and analyze data daily, performing necessary adjustments to optimize system performance. Monitor and control operations in part using a SCADA system. Participate in regular inspections and maintenance of the primary treatment facility, rural reservoirs and distribution system.
In order to meet compliance with Provincial Legislation, the Water Facility Operator is required to assume the role of Operator in Charge on a rotational basis, or as directed by the Facility Manager.
The preferred candidate will have:
- A grade 12 education, GED, or equivalent,
- A minimum 2 years post secondary education in the Sciences, Civil Engineering Technology, Environmental Studies or related fields,
- Valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License,
- Experience in the plumbing, electrical, instrumentation and mechanical fields would be considered an asset,
- Provincial certification in Water Treatment or Distribution would be considered an asset.
The ideal candidate will be a strong team player, with the ability to work effectively independently and with minimal supervision. Have proven time management, organization, leadership, and communication skills. Be able to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all organizational levels, external contacts, and the public. Adept at troubleshooting and creatively problem solving in, at times, challenging and stressful circumstances. Possess strong computer skills and familiarity with SCADA control, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Comfortable working with tools, chemical handling and able to lift up to 50 pounds. Participate in the rotational schedule which involves some weekend and holiday work. Able and willing to perform standby duties and handle emergency call-out situations after hours, as required.
This is a permanent, full-time (40 hour per week) position with a starting salary hourly rate of $ 28.44 to $41.68 per hour dependent upon qualifications, certification and experience. The Municipality offers a comprehensive benefits package.
