On December 31, 2009, Vern Schlichting retired as the Fire Chief of the Rural Municipality of Macdonald Volunteer Fire Service after 26 years as a member of the department.  Vern’s commitment to the service is a testimony of his dedication to both his professional career as a fire fighter with the City of Winnipeg and to his voluntary service to the citizens of the R. M. of Macdonald.  The Council and staff of the R. M. of Macdonald, along with the citizens of the municipality, extend our gratitude and best wishes to Vern in his retirement from our volunteer fire service.
